Online Sessions

What I have to offer

My work is firmly rooted in the classical Chinese medical tradition. An ancient healing art, Chinese medicine is a profound system which has developed strategies for supporting the healing of all manner of bodily disharmony.

The incredible thing about Chinese medicine is that it does not treat illnesses, it treats people. What this means is that no two treatments are exactly alike. Every session is tailor-made to address your unique situation, and every herbal formula custom-made for your specific condition.

Because Chinese medicine treats people, not “diseases”, as a rule I do not say that I have a specialty. However, I have special training and expertise in a number of areas.

I work a lot with people living with chronic illness, including illnesses that are complex and often evade the understanding of modern Western medicine, such as Lyme disease (which I have written a book about).

In addition, I have a lot of experience working with people who have psychoemotional challenges, such as depression and anxiety, or who feel confusion and a sense of loss of purpose in life.

Finally, because of my background as a practitioner in Daoist and Buddhist systems of spiritual cultivation, I especially enjoy working with fellow-practitioners who are looking for further guidance and medical support for their spiritual practice (I work with individuals who practice in many different traditions, not just the ones I practice within).

In addition to all of this, I frequently treat digestive disorders, menstrual irregularities, headaches and migraines, respiratory conditions, sleep disorders, and inflammatory and rheumatic disorders to great affect.

How Sessions Work

First-Time appointments: 1.5 Hours
Includes comprehensive Health History and diagnostic intake.
In first-time appointments, I take the time to understand the unique condition of your body, so that we can devise a treatment plan specifically for you, including an herbal prescription (if necessary) and diet and lifestyle counseling (again, if necessary). I take the time to explain my thought-process about your condition and its treatment, so you understand how each part of the treatment plan fits together.

Follow-Up appointments: 30 Minutes - 1 Hour
Follow-ups are usually scheduled one to three weeks after our initial consult, so you have had time to receive and start taking the herbal formula before checking in again. Initially, I recommend scheduling an hour-long follow-up, so we have plenty of time to discuss your condition and how it is progressing. Once I am confident in the treatment strategy and general direction, half hour follow-ups are sufficient for us to have a quick check-in, do some diagnostic questioning, and discuss your condition before re-prescribing herbs.

Different clients have different needs, and because I work with a wide array of people and conditions, sometimes sessions follow a different rhythm than what is laid out here. Some clients require more guidance around lifestyle and benefit from more frequent check-ins and emotional processing, in which case they will have weekly sessions for a period of time. Others, especially those using herbs simply to optimize their health, will make an appointment only once every month and a half to get another larger batch of herbs shipped to their home. Each person’s healing journey is different, and I alter the way I work in accordance with this.
